Praying for Enemies and Difficult People

Praying for Enemies and Difficult People

UPHILL DAILY DEVOTION

Day 44 – February 13, 2026

Topic: Praying for Enemies and Difficult People

Introduction

Loving difficult people is one of the greatest challenges in the Christian walk. Praying for those who hurt us feels unnatural, but it is exactly what Jesus commands. Prayer softens our hearts, heals our wounds and releases God’s power into broken relationships. Praying for our enemies does not mean we agree with what they have done or that we ignore wrongdoing. It means we choose forgiveness over resentment, healing over hatred, and we place the situation in God’s hands, trusting Him to deal with every heart in His perfect justice. We are choosing to rise above offense and walk in the love of Christ. Prayer transforms us and positions us to reflect God’s character even in painful situations.

Main Passage

“But I say to you love your enemies bless those who curse you do good to those who hate you and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.”

 Matthew 5:44

Four Vital Points

1. Praying for Enemies Reflects the Heart of Jesus

Jesus prayed for those who crucified Him. When we pray for difficult people we follow His example.

“Then Jesus said Father forgive them for they do not know what they do.”

 Luke 23:34

2. Prayer Heals Our Hearts

Unforgiveness and bitterness lose their power when we bring our pain to God in prayer.

“And whenever you stand praying if you have anything against anyone forgive him that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.”

 Mark 11:25

3. God Can Change Hearts Through Our Prayers

Prayer invites God to work in the lives of those who oppose us.

“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16

4. Praying for Others Strengthens Our Spiritual Maturity

Loving difficult people stretches our character and deepens our walk with God.

“Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21

Prayer

Lord Jesus, give me the strength to pray for those who have hurt me and for those who are difficult to love. Heal my heart and remove bitterness, anger, and resentment. Bless those who oppose me and reveal Yourself to them. Help me walk in love forgiveness and peace. Amen.

Declaration
Today I choose love. I pray for my enemies, I release forgiveness, and I walk in the peace, freedom, and strength that God gives me.
