UPHILL DAILY DEVOTION
Day 8 –January 8, 2026
Topic: Asking God for Discernment in Choices
Introduction
Every day we make choices. Some are small and simple while others shape our future. God does not want us to guess our way through life. He wants to guide us with wisdom and clarity. Discernment is the ability to know what is right, what is wrong, and what is best. When we ask God for discernment, He helps us see beyond our feelings and circumstances so we can make choices that honour Him and lead us into His purpose.
Main Passage
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5 NKJV
Four Vital Points
1. God Wants to Guide Our Decisions
God is not silent. He desires to lead us in every area of life. When we ask for His wisdom, He responds with clarity and direction.
“Your ears shall hear a word behind you saying This is the way walk in it.”
Isaiah 30:21
2. Discernment Comes From the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit helps us sense what is right and what is not. He gives us inner peace when a choice is good and gentle warning when it is not.
“The Spirit of truth will guide you into all truth.”John 16:13
3. God’s Word Lights the Right Path
The Bible is our guide. When we read it regularly, we learn God’s ways and gain understanding that helps us make wise choices.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”Psalm 119:105
4. Discernment Protects Us From Wrong Paths
When we walk in discernment, we avoid traps, mistakes, and unnecessary pain. God’s wisdom keeps us safe and helps us choose what leads to life and peace.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5
Prayer
Lord Jesus give me discernment in every choice I make. Help me hear Your voice clearly and follow Your wisdom. Guide my thoughts my steps and my decisions. Keep me from wrong paths and lead me into Your perfect will. Amen.
Declaration
Today I walk in discernment. God guides my choices and gives me wisdom. My steps are ordered by the Lord and I follow His leading with confidence.
